FCSL SOFTBALL RULES AND INFORMATION

Game Rules
Generally, they will =
be
playing according to the ASA Softball Rules. In particular, the following rules=
will
be observed:
§
Each game w=
ill
have a ONE HOUR time limit
§
Each team w=
ill
have a maximum of 10 players in the field and a minimum of 8 players in the
field.
§
Each team m=
ust
have a minimum of THREE female=
s in
the field and in the line up at all times unless playing shorthanded with o=
nly
8 players. Then 2 females would be acceptable.
§
Each batter=
will
start off with a count of 1-1 =
(one
ball – one strike)
§
If a batter=
has 2
strikes, he/she will have one foul ball, the second foul ball with two stri=
kes
shall result in a “foul out”
§
There is no=
limit
to the number of batters per team but no more than 3 males can bat back-to-=
back
in the lineup.
§
Males batti=
ng in
front of females. With 0 or 1 out, if a male walks and a female is on deck,
then the male is awarded 1st base. The female then has the optio=
n of
walking or hitting. With 2 ou=
ts,
the male is automatically awarded 2nd base and the female has the
option of walking or hitting.
§
There shall=
be a
maximum of three homeruns hit by males per team, per game; any extra homeru=
ns
over three will be considered a “single.” Females will have an unlimited amo=
unt of
homeruns. Homeruns for these purposes do not include inside the park homeru=
ns.
§
When a fema=
le is
batting, all outfielders must remain at least 50 feet
behind the nearest base path until the ball is hit.
§
All batters=
will
be pitched a 12” ASA approved ball. The ball is to have a .44 core and
red stitching. Gold Dot balls=
are
encouraged.
§
All bats us=
ed
must have an ASA 2004 approval stamp and may not be included on the ASAR=
17;s
illegal bat list. (Some bats that were stamped and approved by ASA at one p=
oint
are no longer deemed legal)
§
Metal cleat=
s are
strictly prohibited.
§
Mercy Rule:
Leading teams will be awarded the victory when the trailing team after
exercising all opportunity to score runs in an inning trails the leading te=
am
by the following margins: 3 innings – 20 runs, 4 innings – 15 r=
uns,
5 or more innings – 10 runs.
§
Teams should
attempt to wear matching shirts that correspond to the color of their team.=
§
